If you wish to continue your education after high school in a foreign country, you will need to take certain exams to open doors. If you want to apply for a master's degree abroad, there are primarily four admission exams you will need to take. The GMAT and GRE are general aptitude tests, whereas the IELTS and TOEFL are specific to determining whether or not you have the English competence necessary to enroll in an international university.
Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is a standardized test required for admission to graduate-level programs in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, business, and related fields. The exam can be taken on a computer or printed out and taken by hand. Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Analytical Writing, and the Analytical Writing Assessment make up the four main sections of the GRE. Each section of the GRE has a time limit that must be met before moving on to the next. The full exam lasts for 3 hours. In many countries, including Canada and the United States, a high score on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required to enter graduate school.
Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)
The Graduate Management Admission Test is commonly abbreviated as GMAT. Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA), Integrated Reasoning (IR), Quantitative Aptitude (QA), and Verbal Reasoning are the four components that make up this computer-adaptive test (VR). Additionally, the GMAT test lasts for 3.5 hours, and there is a strict time limit on how long you have to complete each section. The test scores are used as a criterion for admission to several of the world's best B-schools. More than 1200 business schools worldwide use the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) as a prerequisite for admission to their MBA and other management and business degree programs. The GMAT score also has the added benefit of being recognized for five years.
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a standardized examination that is often required in order to gain entrance to English language programs offered by international educational institutions. Additionally, it is one of the criteria that is considered when deciding whether or not to admit candidates to various master's degree programs in nations such as the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, amongst others. The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an exam that is given in conjunction with the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia, and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL).
